17-4ph stainless steel is a precipitated, hardened, martensitic stainless steel composed of 15-5PH stainless steel is a martensitic precipitation hardening material containing chromium, nickel and copper. It is often the first choice for fasteners and structural components in the aerospace industry. Its unique construction provides higher toughness and better corrosion resistance than its predecessor, 17-4 PH. Inclusion control and minimized delta ferrite content both contribute to the higher toughness of 15-5PH stainless steel compared to 17-4 stainless steel. The alloy is further strengthened by a low-temperature heat treatment that precipitates a copper-containing phase in the alloy. 15-5 PH meets the stringent mechanical properties required by the aerospace and nuclear industries. It is also widely used in food processing, paper making and general metal processing industries.
